The University's Campus Map, here, offers our visitors the information needed, but we thought it might be an idea to have something in writing for those who find map reading an arcane art...
For most of you, the point of arrival at the University of East Anglia will be the main car park or bus stop. From there you go across a zebra crossing into the main campus area. Instead of following the walkway, you should veer to the right, before you reach the first building on the right, and go past the bicycle racks and downhill towards the road, Chancellor's Drive. Chancellor's Drive goes past the back of the teaching buildings which are on your left. Follow Chancellor's Drive downhill, and the signs to the Julian Study Centre. We shall have some signs of our own up too.
Following the bend in the road, you should keep on the pavement, walking past a number of other buildings, and then cross the road (onto the right hand side) when you reach the zebra crossing. Continue walking, past the Norwich Business School, and down the slope past Norwich Medical School. Turn turn right at the far end of that building, you will find the Julian Study Centre.
Please leave 10 minutes to get from the car park/bus stop to the JSC, where there will be people to welcome you.
HOW TO FIND THE UNIVERSITY By Car
From London take the M11/A11 north, just outside Norwich take the A47 (Southern Bypass) in the direction of Swaffham - the University is signposted off at the next exit (B1108). If you are driving from the North or the Midlands, you can use the A47 via King's Lynn, or the new A14 as far as Newmarket and then take the A11 to Norwich. UEA is situated on the outskirts of Norwich, around two and a half miles west of the city centre, just off the Earlham Road (B1108) which is one of the main roads out of the city.
We have multiple parking options for our attendees, this year:
West Car Park - FREE This car park is located behind the lecture venue. The entrance is just after the domed glass bus stop on the right, as you go down Chancellor's Drive. If you drive past Norwich Business School, you have missed the turning. Please note, we cannot guarantee the availability of spaces for everyone in the West Car Park so would therefore request that you get to the lecture in good time, especially if you or someone that you are travelling with has mobility problems.
The Main Car Park and the Elizabeth Fry Car Park both charge a £1 flat fee after 6pm, and operate using a token system.
More details on parking, and charges, can be found here.
By Bus and Coach
National Express coaches run from all major airports and cities in Great Britain to the Surrey Street Bus Station in the city centre and also to campus. Norwich city buses 25 and 26 run regularly between the train station, via Castle Meadow and Red Lion Street in Norwich city centre, to the University campus. Bus and coach enquiries (Traveline): (+44) (0)8712 002233. National Express enquiries: (+44) (0)8717 818181.
Norwich is less than two hours from London by train and there are InterCity rail links with the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland via Peterborough. Abellio Greater Anglia trains run from London Liverpool Street station approximately every half hour. The easiest way to reach UEA from the station is by taxi, which costs about £10 and takes approximately 15 minutes. The 25 and 26 bus will take you from the station forecourt to the University. Rail enquiries: 08457 484950.
If you get lost on campus on the evening of the lecture, please ask at the Security Lodge and they should be able to direct you to the Julian Study Centre (and to the respective car parks).
